Progress on Salford’s largest housing development in 50-years
Works are continuing at speed on two Salford sites which will provide new homes for affordable rent.
Clifton Green will provide 51 new homes on a cleared site between Rake Lane and The Green made up of 27 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom apartments, two three-bedroom houses and two four-bedroom houses.
Ryall Avenue in Ordsall will see 41 new homes made up of 14 one-bedroom and 21 two-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses.
These new high-quality homes, some designed and built to PassivHaus standards, will reflect local priorities, such as being wheelchair accessible and highly energy efficient to reduce fuel bills. Providing a range of flexible and adaptable rented homes in different areas will help create mixed, balanced and sustainable neighbourhoods offering a variety of employment and other opportunities to those who live there now and in the future.
Being built by Seddon Construction, the main contractor and supply chain members are offering training and apprenticeship opportunities to local people during construction, working with local schools to offer advice and information about careers in construction and buying local products where possible.
Delivering on our vision of ‘challenging the norm’ with modern methods of construction, putting people at the heart of what we do by offering opportunities for local training, apprenticeships and employment, and reinforcing our mission to deliver sustainable buildings, Mansell is paving the way for delivery of sustainable social housing by being appointed to provide both LGSF and on-site finishes to these pioneering schemes.
Upon planning permission being granted Councillor Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing at Salford City Council and a Director of Dérive, commented, “This decision is fantastic news for all our communities and generations to come, everyone deserves to have a roof over their head and a place to call home! This is the largest scheme of truly affordable housing developments in the city for 50 years. I cannot wait to welcome people into their much-needed new homes.”
Clifton Green will see a phased completion, with both sites will be ready for full occupation in Summer 2022.
