Longshaw Drive, Little Hulton

Client - Salford Council | Main Contractor - Seddon | Architect - PRP

Mansell has been hard at work in the Greater Manchester suburb of Little Hulton. Close in proximity to Bolton, Manchester and Salford, the area is a perfect location for those who want to live close enough to these large urban areas without being right in the thick of it.

Working with our long-time friends and colleagues, Seddon Construction, we’re delivering three midrise apartment blocks as part of Seddon’s commitment to deliver 177 new council and community-owned homes on the site.

The project will form part of a larger development that will deliver 417 homes, Salford’s largest council housing scheme for 50 years.

Scope of works

Mansell’s full arsenal of offsite construction and onsite finishes is on display at Longshaw Drive. Across the three apartment blocks we’re working on, we’ll deliver 18 two-bedroom and 27 three-bedroom apartments for affordable rent, social rent and open market sale.

The apartments have been built to a high quality that meets

  • Exacting energy efficiency requirements

  • Enhanced spatial obligations

  • and elevated sustainability credentials.

Each home is a modern example of the capabilities of our light gauge steel frame solution.

A big part of the inherent quality of the apartments came in the form of the  Passivhaus standard each home achieved. We reached this standard by utilising specialist membranes in conjunction with insulations and components high in energy efficiency. We applied the specialist membranes in our factory to ensure consistent quality and to satisfy the strict requirements of Passivhaus. This was then subject to on-site testing to gain full accreditation.

Failure in construction quality was not an option on this project and the light gauge steel frame approach enabled us to ensure consistently high standards that met the project demands.

The three-storey apartment blocks provide 45 apartments under a contemporary flat roof with a traditional brick façade that incorporates storey-height windows. The project has been designed and panels fabricated in our factory in Bolton before transporting and assembling on site.

Our onsite team are delivering a full suite of services to provide the finished frame. On-site services include insulation, partitions, dry-lining, suspended ceilings and spray finishes. We also completed all fire-protection and compartmentation requirements with our FIRAS-accredited in-house fire-stopping team.

More homes for Greater Manchester

Mansell is committed to being part of the solution to building more homes in Greater Manchester and Longshaw Drive is just one of many projects where that commitment is embodied.

We look forward to finishing the project and delivering a fantastic set of new homes for the people of Little Hulton.
