Nurturing the next generation of Mansell professionals
Yes, our business is construction. But at its heart, construction isn’t about bricks, it’s about people. That’s why one of the values that guides the way we work is our belief in people. A big part of that is the work we do with our clients and the trusted relationships we build with them. The other half is our relationship with the wonderful men and women that make up the Mansell team.
We help our people to do their best work by providing good quality jobs and a positive team environment. We’re selective of the people we bring in to work under the Mansell banner and nurture them to grow and become skilled built environment professionals.
On that front, we’ve had some new additions to the team that we’re excited about going into the summer. Let’s get you up to speed.
MBS 4-week paid work experience programme
As well as upskilling our staff, we’re keen to make good on our social value pledges by offering skills and training for people from the communities we work in. That’s why this summer we ran a paid work experience programme that brings people in from outside the business, giving them a crash course on some of the trades we’re known for at Mansell.
With programme participants from Construction Skills, Bolton College, Salford College, and contractors that have previously worked with us on-site, the team came to our Horwich headquarters and on our live sites, getting into the nitty gritty on how we provide our on-site finishes to a high standard.
With support from our site team leaders, participants were given a rounded experience of many of our on-site disciplines, including plastering, drylining and passive fire protection.
Of the 10 candidates that start, 6 will be offered training contracts on our 2024 204 MBS traineeship programme.
Onto bigger things for the successful candidates
Although there were only 6 trainee contracts available the pool was especially strong this year. As a result, 8 members of the work experience programme have joined Mansell. The period of the traineeship programme is 18 months, with candidates achieving an NVQ in their chosen discipline if they successfully achieve their goals.
These newly trained professionals will be a boon not just for Mansell and the work we do for our clients, but for the industry as a whole. Of course, we always look to have long-term working relationships with our people but if and when they do leave for pastures new, they’ll do so with the skills and experience they need to be at their best.
Mansell hits their employee target
With this new influx of trainees, we’ve hit our recruitment target for the year, bringing our staff roster to 56. That’s good quality jobs and promising futures for 56 local people from Greater Manchester.
